Collagerator is a nice freeware to turn your photos into a cool photograph collage quickly in just a few clicks here and there. Add as many photos as you like, use its collage themes, arrange each image position, add shadow and so on.
The program displays a splash screen when you launch it—which can be disabled easily so it won’t show up again in the future. From there you can create a new collage, edit an existing collage, and see the list of collages you’ve recently saved.
When creating a new collage, you will be presented with a list of collage themes. There are only a few themes but you can easily customize the appearance later. You can also choose a page size and page orientiaton (portrait or landscape). Presets are available so you can simply pick the page size from the drop-down list. Note that it seems to allow creating a custom preset, but the preset I created couldn’t be found anywhere after I relaunched the program.
After choosing a theme, the next page is the editing panel where you can finally start creating your collage. Here you can add images individually or many images at once. Images can be added either from within the program or by dragging and dropping. The images that you add can be individually rotated, enlarged, brought to front or sent to back, brought forward or sent backward, and deleted—in terms of image rotation, unfortunately, it isn’t as flexible as Picasa. Make sure that the Images tab is the active one when you’re doing any of these operations.
Now switch to Theme tab to customize the layout. Here you can automatically arrange the images, enable/disable and adjust shadows, enable/disable and adjust frames, and specifying the collage background—you can use transparent, one color or gradient colors, or an image as the background.
If you’re satisfied already with the result, export it to any image format of your choice. The export option is available within the File menu. Currently it supports exporting your collage to jpeg, bmp, png, gif, ico, ppm, tiff, tif, xbm and xpm.
