Method 2: Using Cortana search box

  1. Type default browser in Cortana search box and hit Enter. If you already remove the box, hit Windows button or click the Start button, type default browser, and press Enter.
  2. Move cursor to “Microsoft Edge” on the right side and click on it. A list of installed browsers will appear. Click on your preferred browser to make it default. There is no need to click any save button because the change is applied instantly.

Method 3

Change default browser to Firefox

  1. Open Firefox. If the “Always check if Firefox is your default browser” option is enabled, the Default Browser notification appears automatically. Click “Use Firefox as my default browser”, which will open the default apps settings. If it is disabled, go to the Firefox Options and click “Make Default” to get you to the default apps settings panel.

The next time you reinstall Windows 10, make sure to choose “customize settings” and then “Let me choose my default apps” to set your preferred browser as the default one. Microsoft uses tiny, low-contrast text for these two options, so make sure that you don’t miss any of them.
