Generate A List of Installed Programs in Text or HTML File (Windows)

Having a list of installed programs can be very useful when you decide to install a fresh copy of Windows. Installing Windows from scratch means that you have to install everything from the very beginning, and unless you have a photographic memory, preparing such a list of programs can make the whole installation process runs easier. Sure you can write down all of the installed applications on a paper but why would you do that when you can simply generate the list and, if necessary, print it out in just a few clicks?

Here we have at least three free tools that you can utilize to generate a list of installed programs within your Windows OS easily and quickly.

CCLEANER
CCleaner is a fast system maintenance freeware and has been recommended everywhere. Also, the download size of the portable version is less than 6 MB, so you probably wouldn’t mind downloading and even using the application on a regular basis.

Among its many features CCleaner has the ability to save the list of installed programs within your Windows. The list is saved in text file.

Here is how to do it.

CCleaner saves to text

  1. Download CCleaner portable from here.
  2. Launch the program.
  3. Click on Tools icon
  4. In the Uninstall window, click the button [Save to text file…]
  5. The default name for the output is install.txt but you can rename it anything you want
  6. Optionally change the folder destination to save the output
  7. Hit the Save button to make the list.

And here is the result.

GEEK UNINSTALLER
Geek Uninstaller is one of the very good free portable uninstall tools in terms of simplicity or practicality.

Again, this is a portable application, but unlike CCleaner, Geek Uninstaller allows you to generate a list of installed programs in HTML file.

GeekUninstaller HTML List Export

  1. Download Geek Uninstaller portable from here
  2. Launch the application
  3. Click [File] and then select “Export to HTML…” or just press Ctrl + S
  4. Optionally rename the output and change the folder destination
  5. Hit the Save button

And here is the result, which looks much better than the text version generated by CCleaner. The provided information is less detailed, though.

IOBIT UNINSTALLER
IObit Uninstaller can also create a list of installed programs as a text file but the result is much neater than that of CCleaner, and a little more detailed, too.

NOTE: If you already have installed IObit Advanced SystemCare in your system, IObit Uninstaller is already included within the installation package. If you don’t have it, then you can download the standalone IObit Uninstaller.

IObit Export Application List

  1. Download IObit Uninstaller from here
  2. Launch the application
  3. Click on “More” at the top right corner to view the drop-down list
  4. Select “Export Application List”
  5. The output is named “Software List” by default but you can change it
  6. Optionally change the folder destination to save the output
  7. Hit the Save button

And here is the generated list.

As you can see from the screenshot above, beside the name of the developer, version, size and the installation date, the list also include the registry key, the uninstall command, and the URL of the help page for each application.
